Page Structure

Page Layout

Every page on the RMCC Web site has a common look and feel to ensure that you can easily travel from section to section. For a description of each main section click on the corresponding link above.

Top Menu Bar

All GoC Web pages must include the common menu bar, placed at the top of every Web page, to facilitate navigation through and between GoC sites.

Breadcrumbs

A navigational 'notation' located at the top of a Web page that shows a visitor where he (or she) is located based on the Web site's structure or information hierarchy. Breadcrumbing is the navigation set that details the direct ancestors and parent pages of any given page. All pages are linked for easy backwards navigation.

For example: RMCC Home > Office of the Commandant

Sidebars

The left sidebar allows quick and easy access to our services, activities and operations.

The quick search can be used to find information within the RMCC Web site. The advanced search includes metadata fields for more precise searches.

The right sidebar is used to drill down into deeper levels of navigation within the context of the section you are in.

Top of Page

Content

The content area of all Government of Canada Web pages, other than Welcome Pages and Server Message pages, must be centered in the page and presented in one of three designs: a three-column layout, a two-column layout, or a one-column layout. The width of the content page, including its header and footer, is set at 760 pixels.

The three-column layout is used on the primary menu page and on some of the other Web pages.

Most secondary content pages use the two-column page layout that allows for left menu navigation and a large area where content is presented.

Content that cannot be made to fit in the two-column layout by adjusting its format or structure is displayed in a single-column layout.

In exceptional cases where specific content, including maps, large tables, charts, and graphs cannot adjust by way of wrapping to the standard 760 pixel width or by altering the content and its structure, the content may be extended to the right. When this occurs, you will be informed that the content area is larger than usual.

Footer

The Footer displays the date of the last update and provides links to the top of page and to important notices.

Date Modified - Shows the last time the current page was updated or reviewed in the YYYY-MM-DD format.

Top of page - Returns you to the top of the page you are currently viewing.

Important Notices - Contains valuable copyright information regarding the reproduction (commercial and non-commercial), use of third-party materials, disclaimer, privacy, and official languages of Government of Canada Web site content.
